Good morning, editor My name is Kendra I’m writing this letter to the community leaders to discuss accessible parking in Auburn, Indiana. Here is a little bit of background information about myself: I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy, Which means I'm in a wheelchair full-time, so accessible parking is essential for me. It’s also very concerning that the town I grew up in has limited accessible parking. Town Square has only four parking spots that are accessible for wheelchair users. The parking spaces can become dangerous because they directly face traffic, which is not functional for individuals with physical conditions who need help with mobility issues. The community has ignored this parking issue for too long, and we cannot ignore it anymore. I want to remind everyone that universal design can work for anyone and positively impact the community. Thank you so much for your understanding of this issue. Sincerely Kendra my video is uploaded to my youtube

Good morning, Editor
My name is Kendra Hummer. I’m writing this letter to the community leaders to discuss accessible food establishments in Auburn, Indiana. Here is a little bit of background information about myself: I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which means I'm in a wheelchair full-time, so accessibility in local restaurants is essential for me. It’s also very concerning that the town I grew up in has limited access to accessibility in Restaurants. A lot of restaurants in the area and the surrounding areas are not accessible. Includes the restaurant doors that are not automatic, making it difficult to be independent because we have to ask for help opening them; it can be hard to open on your own. The layout is essential when it comes to the design of the establishment. It means that there’s enough space for me to get my wheelchair at my table so I am not disrupting my experience and the other consumers alongside me. Have you ever noticed the leg of the table? Well, that is something that I have had to look out for when you go out to a restaurant and other food establishments because the leg of the table that makes it sturdy is circular. It’s easier to get under than the bottom of the table if it is square-shaped. It’s more difficult when you’re in a wheelchair. The community has a crucial role in addressing this issue; we cannot ignore it anymore. I realize that individuals don’t know about the problems because they haven’t had to think about them unless they have lived with them or been affected by them. I want to remind everyone that universal design can work for anyone and positively impact the community. It's our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can enjoy our local food establishments. Thank you so much for your understanding of this issue. If you want to discuss this further, please email me at [email protected]. Sincerely Kendra Hummer
